Scientific Name: Lutra canadensis

Habitat: Shores of lakes, rivers, and marshes of North America

Food: Fish, insects, amphibians, and small mammals

Facts: River otters hunt chiefly at night, usually in the water. They have a specialized eye structure which allows them to adjust their sight for water distortion. Sometimes several otters hunt together working cooperatively to catch fish.
