Warthog

Scientific Name: Phacochoerus aethiopicus

Habitat: Africa south of the Sahara

Food: Grass, roots, berries, the bark of young trees, and occasionally carrion

Facts: The warthog gets its name from the fleshy skin growths on its face. These "warts" cushion the blows of their opponent's tusks during courtship battles. Although the warthog's large tusks are impressive, the smaller, lower tusks are the animal's principal weapon.
